|Doesn't look much like a prison does it?|
I like the way the story progressed as the reasons and methods of the breakout became apparent, and what started as a simple, if large, prison break rapidly became much more epic and dangerous as the history of the ancient Rakata ruins on which the prison was built was uncovered. The story turned into a mission to stop the unleashing of a galaxy-wide threat by the Esh-ka, whilst at the same time continuing to build the back-story of the Rakata species that began on Tatooine and will culminate in the game's first Operation, The Eternity Vault, which is itself set on Belsavis.
The story also highlighted some of the difficult and misguided decisions those involved in war will take, and once again some members of the Republic were shown to be just as bad as those they were trying to fight (bringing some justice to Senator Tudos was very satisfying).

The planet itself looks spectacular, with large areas of tropical jungle islanding the harsh ice that covers the planet. Soon after landing at the Republic command centre I felt like I was at The Wall in Westeros, rather than on a planet in the Star Wars galaxy. A huge sheer wall of ice thrust hundreds of feet into the air, sending flurries of snow down into the jungle. The juxtaposition of the two environments was very effective.
Merec's smuggler story was also great fun. Sent to find and locate a prisoner named Ivory, one of Rogun the Butcher's henchmen, in order to extract information on The Butcher's whereabouts it soon became apparent things weren't going to go smoothly. The Republic trooper in charge, Marshall Cavarat, was a hard-nosed and no-nonsense commander who wouldn't take any of Merec's tomfoolery. Of course, by the end his charm had won her over and ended with a fun romantic scene that once again brought a big smile to my face. The smuggler's story is always so much fun.
After several adventures Merec managed to locate Ivory, who was not as expected, and is in fact now resident on Merec's starship as a new NPC (I decided to help him escape in the end, rather than turning him over to the Republic). Along the way there were some really fun encounters (see the short video, Beasts of Belsavis, I made below).

I also found a couple more datacrons. Neither of them involved any tricky jumping this time, but rather some puzzles. One seemed to be based on the Leap of Faith from the end of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and the other involved the collection of some rare Rakata energy cubes (to be fair I had to spoiler this one as they too me ages to locate!).
Ivory's information has now lead Merec to Voss to try and find out where Rogun obtained the assassins that tried to kill Merec and Senator Dodonna on Nar Shadaa. However, I will miss Belsavis. It's stories and characters were really interesting and the time I spent there really sped by.
