The Hooded Claw

I may have been quiet on the blog front recently but I've been pretty busy in gaming terms. Most of my time has been spent playing The Old Republic with my usual group, though unfortunately one of the group has had to drop out, meaning we are currently a threesome (hopefully only temporarily). So, we've been terrorising the galaxy without Hawkwyn, who seems to have found gainful employment running a small base on Belsavis...

Hawkwyn appears to have found a new job...
I'm getting towards the end of the Sith storyline now and it is really picking up into an epic tale. Some spoilers ahead...

Becoming the Emperor's Wrath was a suitably fun event, and I was surprised by the betrayal by one of my companions, a great touch that really helped to heighten the stakes. I was slightly disappointed that I wasn't able to permanently kill that companion in response, but I can understand the reasons that might not work in an MMO. I'm really looking forwards to seeing how it all ends and finally putting Baras in his place, though even at this late stage there are enough questions left that I am wondering if I am on the right side.

Another recent highlight for me was obtaining one of the new cybernetic claws that were released in the most recent patch. I don't care much for the rest of the cybernetic gear, but having just a single cybernetic hand really fits with Carinus' character and looks particularly evil.

The Hooded Claw
Along the way to Voss, Carinus has also got married to Jaesa (a weird thing for a Sith to do it seems to me) and found a tauntaun mount (I love the sound design for these guys).

As well as continuing my adventures in The Old Republic I have started playing through Dragon Age Origins again, encouraged to get back into it after seeing some of the Dragon Age Inquisition reveals at PAX. I'd forgotten what a great game it is (and how massive and deep as well), and I've been struck by how much more tactical the combat is compared to the sequel, especially on harder difficulty settings.

The Grey Warden
I'm really hoping Inquisition can capture this feeling again (things are looking promising). Check out the reveal video below to see the new game in action, including the return of the overhead tactical combat view.

Here are a few more screenshots of my most recent adventures in The Old Republic.

  1. Totally agree on the Dragon Age points. I really hope they open up the tactical element again for Inquisition.
